Federal government grants money to help newcomers find employment

On Jan. 23, MP for Winnipeg Centre Robert-Falcon Ouellette, on behalf of Patty Hajdu, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, announced a funding of $95,867 for the Neighborhood Empowerment and Resource Centre under the Career Focus Program for the Enabling Work Force In Manitoba (ENWIN) project.

ENWIN is a tri-party initiative of Employment and Social Development Canada, currently being executed by NEARC Inc. The program aims to facilitate the transition of highly skilled young immigrants to the Canadian labour market. It will give the opportunity for newcomers to participate in the Canadian workplace through a 10-week paid internship, giving them the skills they need to engage in employment.

The Career Focus program, under the Government of Canada’s Youth Employment Strategy, helps post-secondary graduates between the ages of 15 and 30 develop job skills and gain the work experience they need to get jobs now and prepare for the workforce of tomorrow.
