Dr. Mitali Banik
Mitali Banik was born in Bajitpur, Bangladesh, an area ideally known to nature-lovers for scenic floodplain and wetland landscape. She is currently engaged in research activities at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. She began her career in Bangladesh where she worked in ‘Bangladesh Rice Research Institute’. She obtained her B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from the University of Dhaka, PhD from University of Adelaide, Australia, and post-doctoral experience at the University of Guelph, Canada. In her professional life, she is passionate in mentoring students to develop their skills for a career in research.
While developing her career and raising her family in Canada, she has been actively involved in community groups in Southwestern Ontario, and Manitoba’s Brandon and Winnipeg, with focus on new immigrant settlement in Canada. She continues to be an active member of the Bangladeshi community in Winnipeg, and also mentors others as requested.
Mitali has worked closely with the Cancer Care Foundation and, Heart and Stroke Foundation for raising community awareness and also assisted in fund raising through annual door to door campaign. She is also actively involved with a few ethno-cultural organizations in Winnipeg. She has a gratified family, comprising her husband Mr. Surjya Banik, and her two daughters Anna Banik and Ms. Upama Banik.
