Ms. Vanessa Cook
Ms. Vanessa Cook is a Director of Neighborhood Empowerment and Resource Centre (NEARC Inc.). She is a proud Anishinabequay and member of Peguis Anishinaabe Nation. Her major role in life is as a Mother, Helper and role model. She prides herself on her Indigenous education. The strongest Teachings in her life have come from partaking in sacred ceremonies such the Woman’s’ Fast and Sun dance. While spending time in Circles with the very best teachers, the Elders, Knowledge Keepers and Medicine Practitioners.
She graduated from Children of the Earth High School and obtained a First Nation Counselling Degree from Brandon University. For 10 years, Vanessa has been employed as a Youth Health Educator with the Teen Talk program where her heart and mind meet in good work to help young people make informed decisions about their health. Teen Talk is a health education service that believes a realistic, youth oriented, harm-reduction approach is essential. Teen Talk is based out of the Sexuality Education Resource Centre (SERC) and a program of Klinic Community Health.
